International Women’s Day 2026 #GiveToGain

Every year 8th March is celebrated as the International Women’s Day. A day, especially dedicated to celebrate the women who bring joy to our lives. During the 2000s era, women’s Day shed light on the great women in the nation, in the world, and in our homes. But with the rising awareness, more political revelations, and booming social media platforms, the world is slowly being exposed to the fact that women are not just achieving but also suffering silently. Be it physically, mentally, emotionally, culturally, or economically, the lives of women have never been easier. It's just that now we have more resources to know the unsaid and unheard secrets.
Looking at these struggles, the global community of #IWD2026 has introduced the theme of the year #GiveToGain, which serves as a powerful reminder that when we give our time, knowledge, resources, and support to women’s advancement, global society flourishes together towards a positive change.
This year’s theme encourages thinking beyond individual achievement and rewards, but towards a culture of generosity where women’s meaningful progress is valued. Be it through mentorship, visibility, advocacy, or investing in women-led initiatives, the concept of Give To Gain in turn creates ripple effects that strengthen communities, workplaces, industries, and societies.
It is not supposed to be something tangible. It is about creating opportunities to
- Share knowledge and experience that creates future leaders.
- Sponsoring and mentoring women’s careers.
- Making women more audible and visible.
- Investing in women-centric communities, institutions, and programs.
To achieve this balance in the lives of women in the nation, the Indian Government has launched several schemes in 2025.
New Schemes Launched By The Government in 2025
- Entrepreneurship Loan Scheme for Women, SC & ST: This is a major new credit-linked initiative announced in the 2025-26 budget to support 5 lakh first-time women entrepreneurs with term loans of up to ₹2 crore over the next five years.
- Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan: Launched on September 17, 2025, this nationwide health and nutrition mobilization campaign focuses on improving the well-being of women and children through thousands of local health camps.
- Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats: Introduced in March 2025, this initiative selects one Gram Panchayat per district to undergo specialized leadership training for women to enhance their role in local governance.
- Rani Durgavati Women Empowerment Scheme: This scheme is specifically launched to uplift and empower tribal women.
- SHAKTI 2025 (Mission Shakti Third Year): Its a specialized sub-program under Mission Shakti that was highlighted in 2025 to mentor and support 1,500 women entrepreneurs through a one-year "handholding" cycle.
Along with these schemes, there are also some initiatives prior to 2025 that have reached milestones.
Key Flagship Schemes Reaching Milestones in 2025
The government also used 2025 to boost the existing programs:
- Mission Shakti: This umbrella scheme, which includes safety (Sambal) and empowerment (Samarthya) verticals, received a budget allocation of ₹3,150 crore for FY 2025-26.
- Lakhpati Didi: By March 2025, the initiative could successfully enable 1.48 crore women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to reach an annual income of at least ₹1 lakh.
- NaMo Drone Didi: The scheme entered its peak implementation phase in 2025, where it aimed to train 15,000 women SHGs as drone pilots for agricultural services by 2026.
- SHe-Box Portal: This portal was launched in late 2024, where it became a central pillar for workplace safety in 2025, with over 130,000 workplaces on-boarded for sexual harassment grievance redressal.
- Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY): This Yojana celebrated its 10th anniversary in January 2025, with total accounts surpassing 4.2 crore.
With the help of these schemes and more awareness for women empowerment, certain strategic financial boosts have been witnessed.
Strategic Financial Boosts
- Gender Budget Increase: The 2025-26 Gender Budget Statement reported an allocation of ₹4.49 lakh crore, representing a 37% increase from the previous year.
- Mudra Yojana Expansion: The loan limit for the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) was increased to ₹20 lakh in the latest budget to further support women-led micro-enterprises.
With these schemes and launches, in 2025, India’s women empowerment schemes have achieved a high economic momentum and some gradual social transformation.
The rate of empowerment is most visible in financial inclusion, where the Lakhpati Didi initiative has successfully helped 1.48 crore women to reach higher income brackets. The Gender Budget has also seen a massive 37% increase to ₹4.49 lakh crore.
Such empowerment initiatives have inspired women all across the country and built confidence in them. From reaching a bigger world, to making small impacts in the existing workplaces, the efforts of women do not go unnoticed.
